NYC-based rap band Cook Thugless is coming out the gate hot in 2019 with their fourth album: LUXE. The 10-track album features four singles released in 2018, including Lockjaw (ft. Shyrley). This sleeper hit on the razor’s edge of pop has racked up over 1M streams on Spotify and 330k views on YouTube with its cinematic music video featuring Brandon Flynn of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why.

LUXE nimbly hops between the genres of heavy trap, sparkly pop, emotional electronic, and even dabbles in odd meters. The eclectic instrumentals are glued together with the synergistic vocals of rappers JeanLouis and Jack Blerry. The two frontmen go back and forth on most songs, singing and rapping alongside some notable features; Shyrley Rodriguez, known for her impressive vocal work in Netflix’s The Get Down, shines brightly on Lockjaw. If singing weren’t enough, she also flexes her rapping chops en español on the the funkified Dat Mofk. Thugless drummer J-Titty raps over a string quartet and trap drums in one of the hardest-hitting bangers on the whole album: Figaro. Producer/singer l.alley channels Young Thug on Kobra Kommander and Yung Bubz the Gato, while digging deep into the blues on his ode to Hollywood westerns, The Devil.
